On to College Football
Does anyone really believe West Virginia could be beat Florida State after witnessing last Friday's gladiator match in South Florida? Does anyone believe West Virginia is the #7 team in the country, now ranked AHEAD of FSU? Come on! WVU beat University of Central Florida 45-20 last weekend. Prior to losing, UCF was the #93 team in the country. Big deal.
In a match-up between WVU and any other team in the top 15, I would take the other team. In a match-up between WVU and any other team in the 16-20 spot, yeah, I take the other team. In a match-up between WVU and any team in the 21-25 spot, there'd be some close games, and maybe WVU would prevail, but it wouldn't be by the score that say, FSU would trounce those teams.
In other Big East news, Boston College comfortably beat #44 Penn State. UConn survived #94 Duke by 2 points. Rutgers was crushed by New Hampshire, who I think plays with the K2 sized football. Pittsburgh beat #96 Ohio. Syracuse had an easy 20 point win over Buffalo, ranked #116 out 117.
And in other Big East news, the Terps trounced Temple 45-22, with only a 4th quarter 15-point spurt against the back-ups making the score respectable for the Owls.
"Why did we get so behind so bad? We couldn't execute in the first half," said Temple coach Bobby Wallace. "Offensively, (I'm) very disappointed in the execution in the first half. I have to take the blame for that."
Also, his team plays in the Big East. That could account for why they can't compete.
In the ACC, meanwhile, only three teams lost over the weekend. Two of those losses were in conference. The sole loss to a non-conference opponent was by Duke to UConn. But that's to be expected.
So the so-called #7 Mountaineers play the Terps this coming weekend. It'll be settled in Morgantown. Expect a Terps win. And if history is any indication, it shouldn't even be close.
